About me

I’m a bassist and multi-instrumentalist based near Birmingham in the United Kingdom. My music is a rhythmic blend of jazz, ambient and world sounds.

My playing influences are wide ranging – Jaco Pastorius, Eberhard Weber, Arild Andersen, Geddy Lee, Mark King, Gene Simmons, Mick Karne, Percy Jones, Tony Levin and more recently Dan Berglund (e.s.t), Avishai Cohen and Anders Jormin.

Background

I have always been passionate about music and started playing the guitar when I was 9 years old. I soon developed an interest in the bass guitar, starting to play when I was fourteen when my Dad bought me an old Precision Bass copy from a thrift shop.

I played bass with Wolverhampton-based band Mechanical Hearts from aged 17 until my mid-twenties. Since then my musical involvements have mostly been with the local christian church – playing at conferences and meetings in and around the West Midlands area and running music workshops for local teenagers as a volunteer youth-leader. To this end, over the last 16 years, I have has had the priviledge of visiting a number of countries around the world. One highlight was being part of a band responsible for a run of workshops and football stadium concerts in Rwanda, Central Africa where music was used for promoting tribal reconciliation led by David Bankhead (We Are One) and Chip Bailey. Recordings from this time include: The Celtic Source (vols 1 & 2), The Australian Source, Mana Kiza U Rwanda and Rabagirana Rwanda amongst others.

Today

I now write and record in my home studio. A passion for Jazz and Jazz-influenced music has seen me exploring my own take on this diverse genre. In late 2008 I completed a six-track album entitled ‘The Last And The First’ and in 2009 there followed a 4-track EP called ‘Beats in Rhythm’. Both of these are available from my Bandcamp page.

I’ve recently started working solo using live-looping technology I’m working towards compiling an album of such pieces and am concentrating on polishing my live performance.

I would love to see my music used in short films and always aspire to write quality material.

I also write articles and lessons for the American online bass magazine, No Treble as a guest contributor.
